About this deal

The performance of this fragrance is amazing. I find it lasts 10+ hours and projects quite a bit for 4-6 hours and the scent trail is delicious. It doesn't need a heavy spray to get that performance, but I do like to add an extra couple sprays when I wear it for a night out. I did overspray it one time...and it was not good...way too much. You are getting pummeled with sower cherries and drinking cough syrup as you put on that almond hand cream. The party doesn't let up- all the middle notes continue to dance as you decide if you like the syrup or not. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an unpleasant fragrance. I just don't get any lush vibes or wow factor from it. Maybe I was expecting too much from it. Maybe I'd been spoiled by my recent acquisition of L'heure Bleue (yes I know they're completely different kettles of fish, but coming from the same house I probably just expected LPRN to have more oomph!) or maybe the Tom Ford Lost Cherry that had arrived the previous day had just totally ruined any other cherry fragrance for me, forever. When this came out I couldn't deal with the sweet and gourmand facets, and basically ignored it. Now that I've found an-almost full 50 ml bottle in a thrift shop, it's interesting to re-assess LPRN since all the fuss has died down.

Woooh. Ok. Good news- I can smell ever note listed! That is unusual for me, maybe my sniffer is becoming more refined.I am having the hardest time articulating my thoughts about Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire (EDP). I really like it, that I know for sure. Every time I take a big sniff of my wrists I have a split second where I think I can smell every single individual note, but then the second passes and I can't smell every note, just a wonderful blend of them: cherry, almond, licorice, tea, vanilla, rose, tonka bean, patchouli, iris, etc. Also a slight hint of powder that might be from the iris, but I feel this is what gives it an old-school femme fatale vibe to it. I feel like I should be carrying a long cigarette holder while wearing this (I don't smoke). After the sweet, herby, and smokey notes play for awhile, La Petite Robe Noir reveals its pedigree as the characteristic Guerlain base takes hold. The tonka bean and iris come to play, bringing the powder. This rounds out and smooths the fragrance, giving it that luxurious, almost velvet quality that I love. Longevity and sillage are typical for a Guerlain, which is to say excellent.

Avon Little Black Dress - Black Edition Eau de Parfum 1.7oz

Sort of reminds me of a not so sweet potpourri - which also sort of reminds me of the department store haha. Predominantly, this is a fruity gourmand. Veeeery small amount of floral. It's also super-synthetic, but in the best possible way. It was exciting for me to smell all! Base notes touch down so well after a little cherry bombing some more. The marizpan-like cherry and almond blast in the opening notes smelt too much like food to me and not like a fragrance a grown woman would wear and I found it far too sweet, childish and abrasive. I didn't like this fragrance from the get-go.Tony Shades: the powdery notes are actually listed. The most common notes that make a fragrance powdery are Iris (often listed as Orris root, as it is the root that is used for natural Iris), and violet. Perfumes with lots of purple flowers are almost always powdery. Another note that is often powdery is rose. There are two types of Roses in this fragrance, so it’s unsurprising that this fragrance is powdery especially in combination with the Iris. PRICE: It's definitely up there in price, but it's not the most expensive you'll find on the market. It's much cheaper than brands like Frederic Malle, Byredo & Diptyque for EDPs. But what's interesting is the sourcherry & almond don't fade away, they are always present as the fragrance develops on the skin. I personally found this scent quite cloying and slightly overpowering and it made me sneeze and have a headache. I'm really not into gourmand fragrances at all and i don't like scents that are spicy and/or super sweet... La Petite Robe Noire is both of those things... The tartness goes away and I get alot of rose since my skin LOVES florals, the licorice gives a powdery, smoky thing to the scent which I really like. I don't get cough medicine or find this to be too sweet or juvenile!
