Additionally, this ryzenmini pc features five USB 3.0 ports as well as a USB Type-C port for high-speed connectivity of devices. It also features a 2.5 Gigabit ethernet port for lag-free online games. That leads us to an inevitable question: who should buy the HX90? Anyone looking for an impressive amount of CPU horsepower in a compact chassis, the HX90 is one of the most powerful mini-PCs on the market. Mass Effect runs at 60FPS at 1920×1080 with some graphics settings disabled. However by lowering the resolution to 1280×720 and have all the graphics enabled, you get a far improved graphics quality and solid 60 FPS.

The MinisForum HX90 is a high-performance mini PC that combines a futuristic, practical design and high performance into a sleek, miniature form factor. Also on the gaming front the performance in terms of FPS of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is good. 4K Display More and more AMD Ryzen 5000H 'Cezanne' powered Mini PCs are entering the market segment, with the latest from MINISFORUM unveiling their Ryzen 9 5900HX powered EliteMini HX90 Mini PC. With the HX90, there is a high-end APU from AMD in a compact housing. More precisely, a Ryzen 9 5900HX is installed and thus an eight-core with 45 watt TDP is served, which ranks behind the Ryzen 9 5980HS and Ryzen 9 5980HX in terms of performance in the current portfolio of AMD's mobile Ryzen lineup. Design The Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G is a very compact gaming device that is equipped with a full-fledged GPU. Because of its build, the device is based on a setup that the manufacturer has repeatedlyused to produce fast mini PCs and has thus become very familiar with. Fundamentally, Minisforum has improved its initial EliteMini HX90and expanded it to include an AMD Radeon RX 6600M, making the system more suitable for 3D performance and enabling limitless gaming in 1080p and maximum details.

Where this mini-PC really comes into its own is as a game streaming box. With the rapid rise in internet speeds, the shortages of gaming hardware like GPUs, game streaming has become a viable option for PC gamers to play the latest video games. The installed AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX belongs to the Cezanne series and is based on the Zen 3 architecture. The SoC offers 8 physical processing cores with a total of 16 threads (thanks to SMT), which particularly benefits multi-thread applications. The EliteMini HX90 can clearly outperform the recently tested Minisforum EliteMini HM90based on the AMD Ryzen 9 4900H. The difference between Zen 2 and Zen 3 becomes quite apparent here. Our review sample is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The device also comes with Windows 10 Professional, unless it is the barebone version. Everything is installed in a 195 x 190 x 60 mm compact case, which makes the Minisforum EliteMini HX90 slightly bigger than the MinisForum EliteMini HM90. Intel's NUC 10 is much more compact in terms of dimensions. Translation: if you want to do anything truly productive with this little toy be prepared to suffer with fan noise. Compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, the Ryzen 9 5900HX shows only a slight performance difference. Both processors are almost identical. Nevertheless, the AM4-based processor can use up to 87 W for a short time, which makes the performance advantage clear.

The Minisforum EliteMini HX90 is a very powerful mini PC for everyday use. However, only selected games can be enjoyed without any problems with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Small, powerful, upgradeable: The EliteMini HX90 is a Ryzen -based mini PC with high speed and lots of features. You can probably use it to play some games – after all, if portable gaming systems like the AYA Neo and GPD Win Max 2021 can be content with AMD's Radeon Vega integrated graphics, the HX90 should perform even better thanks to a much faster processor and more powerful GPU. Prices and Availability The hardware is fitted into a compact device with good ventilation. The cooling system is well-dimensioned and allows the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HXand the AMD Radeon RX 6600Mto work without limitations, even under maximum load. The manufacturer has already proven the use of good cooling units in other devices. Some issues remain in the selection of available ports. While the number of ports is satisfactory, the HDMI and DisplayPort ports sadly only support 2160p at 60Hz. The missing card reader and support for Thunderbolt are less disappointing in view of the device category (gaming device) and are something we could live with. With our STH Mini PC series, we have videos as we have done for the Project TinyMiniMicro series. Here is the video for this one: Minisforum is a Chinese system builder that specializes in ultra-compact mini PCs. We recently had the chance to take a look at the Minisforum EliteMini HM90 and were positively impressed. Now the manufacturer has sent us the EliteMini HX90, the current flagship of its portfolio. The EliteMini HX90 is aimed at a different target group and should also appeal to gamers. We will find out if this is true when we take a closer look at the gaming performance. Nevertheless, other users should not feel completely left out because the installed AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX offers excellent performance that is also very well received in everyday use.

Minisforum HX90 External Hardware Overview

A single fan takes care of the temperature in it, but between the heat sink and the CPU's IHS there is no thermal paste, but liquid metal, which ensures even better heat transfer. Hence, the noise level is only about 30 dB under full load, which is not a bad result for a 2.65-kg structure enclosed in a 195 x 190 x 60 mm housing. Connectivity

How about screens? The HX90, despite its small size, comes as equipped as a full office computer . Capable of supporting up to four monitors simultaneously at up to 4K@60Hz (2x DisplayPort, 2x HDMI 2.0). Game, chat, binge and surf all at once with the HX90. You also have the bonus of it supporting two internal 2.5” drives and fast ethernet, so it is great as a NAS for media and storage as an example. I like the HX90 a lot, if you are looking for a high performance gaming mini pc, then look no further, MinisForum have done an amazing job! Gameplay and Emulator Footage Networking is provided via an Intel i225-V 2.5GbE NIC which was a nice addition. We also get four USB 3 Type-A ports on the rear of this unit. That means that overall we have a bit more standard connectivity than the TinyMiniMicro series. You may notice “carbon fiber” looking faceplates on this system. They are plastic, but they also look cool. Minisforum HX90 Stand Three Quarter Top This gamingmini PC ’sperformance is further bolstered by the respectable dual-channel SO-DIMM DDR4 RAM running at speeds of up to 3200mHz. There is also an M.2NVMePCIe 3.0 SSD to provide lightning-fast loading speeds for all your apps and games. In terms of noise, in the video we had the unit held up to the microphone so you can hear it. At idle and lower power it is quiet, bot silent. At 100W+ it gets quite a bit louder.” Services like XBOX Cloud Gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now and Google Stadia allow PC gamers to stream their favorite games from the internet – just like with movie streaming with services like Netflix. The max RAM of HX80G is 64GB with speed limit to 3200MHz. The max RAM of HX99G is 64GB with speed limit to 4800MHz.
